Blackout Group is composed of 3 core elements.
Founded in 2016, Blackout Barrel Group has picked over 100 barrels from every major distiller. We also have our own private label bottled under the Blackout brand.
Founded in 2018, Blackout Racing Stable currently owns four horses: Sugoi, Thundering Creed, Megacity and Press Snooze. They’ve amassed career earnings of over $150,000 to date.
Founded in 2019, Barrels For a Cause is our annual charity event. Since our inception Blackout has donated over $550,000 to local charities in Kentucky region.
Blackout Barrel Group is a social club that was founded in 2016. Blackout works with local and national retailers and distillers to select private barrels of bourbon and other brown spirits to be shared by its membership. Along with barrel picks we offer bottle our own private label for our members.
To date, Blackout has selected over 100 private barrels from brands such as: E.H. Taylor, Willett, Four Roses, Blanton’s, Eagle Rare, W.L. Weller, John J. Bowman, Russell’s Reserve, Knob Creek, Mayor Pingree, Boone County, Elijah Craig, Old Forester, New Riff, Wilderness Trail, Maker’s Mark and L’Encantada. Blackout has also re-purposed used barrels from our selections to create one-of-a-kind blends of wheated bourbon, bourye and Four Roses.
In addition to the occasional sip of brown water and helping people, many in Blackout have a fond love of racing and horses. Blackout Racing Stable, LLC is a separate entity from Blackout and BFAC but a significant portion of the Membership overlaps. Blackout Racing Stable was founded in 2018 and has a 25% win rate with our horses who have amassed over $150K in career earnings.
The initial and ongoing success of Blackout is entirely due to the character of its Membership. This has allowed us the ability to create a charitable wing of Blackout – Barrels for a Cause (BFAC).
BFAC is a Kentucky-based non-profit that is currently undergoing the process to obtain charitable exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the tax code. BFAC uses Blackout’s connections and resources within the spirits industry to raise money for various charitable organizations, primarily through an annual event held in June.
BFAC’s inaugural event was held in 2019 at New Riff Distillery. Through the generous donations and tireless work of many, BFAC was able to raise over $100,000 for the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati.
In 2021, BFAC has partnered with the Lee Initiative and Makers Mark to raise funds for the Food Service industry decimated by forced COVID-19 closures. The event was held at the Kentucky Derby Museum and raised over $130,000 for the Lee Initiative.
